A type of Chinese dish which normally use chicken or pork which are cut into small pieces, deep fried and then drenched in sweet and sour sauce. In this version it will use sliced tomatoes, cauliflower, carrots and pineapple.

In its home country, this food is usually referred to as Gou Lao Rou. While in Indonesia, people prefer to call it koloke, keluyuk, or kuluyuk. In the area of origin, koloke is more often made using pork as the basic ingredients. When entering Indonesia, which is predominantly Muslim, the pork is substituted with chicken.

ingredients

  • Sweet and sour chicken

    • 500 gramchicken breast fillet
    • 200 gramstarch
    • 75 cctomato sauce
    • 100 ccwater
    • 1000 ccoil(for frying)
    • 1 pcsonion
    • 1 pcsgreen pepper
    • 1 pcsred pepper
    • 1 pcspineapple
    • 2 pcseggs
    • 1 tbspsalt
    • 1 tbsppepper
    • 1 tbspmushroom stock
    • 1 tbspminced garlic
    • 1 tbspsugar
    • 1 tbspsesame oil
    • 1 tbspcooking wine
    • 1 tbspfish sauce
    • 2 tbspcooking oil

Preparing the ingredients

  1. Cut the chicken breast, red pepper, green pepper ,onion and pineapple into cubes (2x2 cm)

Frying the chicken

  1. In a bowl, mix the chicken with 4 eggs. Add 2 tbsp of pepper and 2 tbsp of salt. let it seep for 30 minutes.
  2. After 30 minutes, put in starch and mix well.
  3. Pre-heat oil to 180 degree, you can check this by adding some batter to see the bubbles or dip in wooden chopstick. if its bubbly then the temperature is right. Deep fried the chicken until its golden brown.

Making the sweet and sour

  1. Heat oil in a pan, once heated put in garlic and stir until garlic turn brown.
  2. After that, put in 2 tbsp of sesame oil, 2 tbsp of fish sauce and 2 tbsp of cooking wine into the pan then add onion, cook it till onion fragrant.
  3. Once it turn fragrant next put in the chopped red and green peppers, pineapple, and 300 cc of tomato sauce. Stir it a bit and wait until it boils.
  4. After boils put in 400 cc of water, 2 tbsp of salt, 2 tbsp of pepper, and 2 tbsp of mushroom stock, stir well and wait till it bubbly.
  5. Lastly, add in fried chicken and mix it well. The sweet and sour chicken ready to be served!
