Marble cake is a very traditional cake to make and it’s very popular in all parts of the world. It first originated in Germany but it has since been made popular and traditional in other countries. Marble cake is a perfect combination of comfort and elegance as it has the classic flavours of chocolate and vanilla as well as the appearance that can impress your guests every time!
The name marble cake comes from its signature look of a marble-like pattern. Although back in the old days, the flavours were more of spices to make the dark-coloured batter, the use of chocolate is more popularized by the modern consumer.
How to Make Marble Cake
In this marble cake recipe,we will make it more of a butter-type cake. At first you will make one batter that is divided into two and one will be added with cocoa powder. At this state, it might look fancy but it will be one of the easiest cakes you will make!
To get that marbled appearance, all you need to do is run a toothpick, knife or spatula along the batter and it will form the marbled effect you need.
There are other options for making a marble cake. For example, you can use other flavour combinations, with more than just two flavours or even make a sponge cake version for a lighter and airier textured cake. You can also add toppings like buttercream, frostings or glaze to add more flavour to your marble cake.
This recipe yields only a small batch because of the mould that I have but you can always multiply the recipe to be the amount that suits you. You can also use other shaped moulds but I will use a regular loaf mould for this recipe. The type of mould that I use is a silicon mould so for the cake to not stick to the pan, you will need to grease it with butter and dust some flour. If you have a non-stick loaf pan, you can also use that and it doesn’t need to be greased as a silicon mould does. You will, however, need to place a piece of baking paper at the bottom of the pan.
Marble cakes are great to eat when you want to have a cup of coffee or tea.
