THE HISTORY OF OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES

Oatmeal raisin cookies have been around for some time. These go all the way back to the 1800s but back then, it didn’t have raisins in them. As time went by, the addition of raisins became popular due to a recipe that’s featured on Quaker Oats’ (A very popular oatmeal brand) packaging. Thus becoming a staple cookie throughout the world.

THE HEALTHY FOOD : OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES

Oatmeal raisin cookies have become more health conscious due to the main ingredient being oatmeal. That’s because, oatmeal cookies are higher in fibre than normal cookies. Other health benefits from oatmeal cookies include high amounts of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium as well as lower in calories.

BROWN BUTTER RAISIN OATMEAL COOKIES

oatmeal raisin cookies thumbnail 3.jpg To change it up a bit and make it even more delicious, I decided to include brown butter into this recipe. Brown butter gives a more caramelised and fragrant cookie, which in fact, results in a depth of flavour. The brown butter compliments the oatmeals and raisins, resulting in a crispy, caramelised, yet soft and tangy cookie.

HOW TO SERVE YOUR COOKIES

These brown butter oatmeal raisin cookies are great for mid-day or late afternoon snacks. Even though they’re healthy, they are still just as delicious as any other cookie. In fact, you can serve them like regular cookies with your favourite cup of coffee, tea or a glass of milk!

So don’t just read this recipe, you have to go and try them yourselves!

Some tips that might be useful:

  • You can always substitute raisins with other dried fruits like dried cranberries, dried blueberries, etc. or even chocolate chips.
  • Make sure to use rolled oats and not quick-cooking/instant oatmeal. It will not compliment the texture of the cookies if you use anything other than rolled oats.
